The trash recycling bins for Kane now are located in the parking lot at the former Chestnut Street Elementary School. This is the winter-only location for the bins for the disposal of paper, aluminum cans, plastic bottles and other recyclable items. In the summer months, the bins are moved to a site at Glenwood Park on Hacker Street. Casella, the operator of the landfill near Hutchins, empties the bins on a regular basis. If bins are full, residents are asked to take their trash back home until the bins are emptied.
