Richard C. "Dick" Nelson
The rev. Richard C. "Dick" Nelson, 82, loving husband, father, grandfather and faithful servant, formerly of 110 Wetmore Ave., Kane, went home to be with his Lord Saturday afternoon, Dec. 11, 2010 at The Lutheran Home at Kane after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease.Born Aug. 21, 1928 in Johnsonburg, he was the eldest son of Roy and Genevieve Olson Nelson. On Sept. 20, 1980 in Kane, he married the former Phyllis E. Eckborg, who survives.After graduating from Johnsonburg High School in 1946, he ran Nelson's Grocery and Jewelers in Johnsonburg, where he made and repaired clocks and watches. Later, he practiced ministry as an associate pastor at the First Baptist Church in Kane, where he was a member, deacon and served on many boards, and then as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Johnsonburg until his retirement.Dick's passion in life was to serve his lord and savior Jesus Christ. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed gardening, reading and studying the written word. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a stepdaughter, Susan (Ray) Kutsch of Ford City; a brother, Robert (Alice) Nelson of Ishpeming, Mich., and daughter-in-law Mary Jo (Larry) Lamping of Kane; nine grandchildren and six grandchildren also survive, plus family members Barbara Nearing, Alice Wright, Debbra Gerrard, Charles Johnson, Ronald Johnson and their families.He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his first wife Pat Nelson, daughter Rebecca Iverson, stepson James Sowa and brother Donald Nelson.Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and may attend a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Kane with the rev. Paul Smith, interim pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Oakmont Cemetery, Ridgway.Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O.
