Richard E. Johnson

Richard E. Johnson, 81, of 7 Brennan Ave., Mt. Jewett, formerly of Castle Shannon, died early Tuesday morning, Jan. 24, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he resided.
He was born Aug. 25, 1930 in Jamestown, N.Y. and was raised in Lamont, son of Victor E. and Hazel M. Nearing Johnson. On Oct. 19, 1974 in Kane, he married the former Vera E. "Midge" Laughlin, who survives.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Mr. Johnson had worked at Warren State Hospital, then for the state welfare office in McKean County.  He later worked in quality control for the Dept. of Public Welfare in Pittsburgh, then was C.F.O. of Marian Manor Nursing Home in Greentree, retiring in 1999.
He was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Castle Shannon, where he also belonged to the American Legion #0490.    He also was a member of the Mendelssohn Choir in Pittsburgh for several years, sang in the Kane Men's Choir, and was a member of the BPO Elks #329 in Kane.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by many cousins.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Thursday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane with Father Philip Pinczewski, pastor, as Celebrant.  Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Kane.
