Ruth E. Buhl

Ruth E. Buhl, 98, of 36 Pine St., Wellsville, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at the Hart Comfort House in Wellsville.
She was born Aug. 6, 1914 in Mt. Jewett, the daughter of arl and Emma (Malmstrom) Bengtson. She graduated from Kane Area High School and Clarion State Teachers College. She was a longtime resident of Kane when she taught school and later was the manager of the Sears store there. In 1999 she moved to Wellsville to be closer to her family.
She married John F. Buhl in Kane on Aug. 17, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1969. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Jones.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Johnson of Wellvsille; grandchildren Dan (Kim) Johnson of Scio, N.Y. and Amy Zakel of Wellsville; also great-grandson Luke Zakel of Wellsville; her sister, Lorraine Bachman of Edison, N.J. and Jeanette Hilss of Natrona Heights; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Kane where she served as organist, treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She attended the First Congregational Church in Wellsville after moving there.
She loved her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all of them. She was an avid reader, using talking books when her eyesight no longer would let her read. She loved puzzles and games of all kinds, especially cribbage.
There will be a private service at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hart Comfort House, 141 E. State St. Wellsville N.Y., First Congregational Church, 298 N. Main St. Wellsville, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements by the Mulholland-Crowell funeral Home of Wellsville.
