Stink is aired over James City garbage issue

February 9, 2012

JAMES CITY – It only takes a few bad apples to ruin the quality of life in a community.
This is the case in James City where some residents reportedly are allowing their garbage to pile up outside their homes rather than pay for garbage collection.
A stink over uncollected garbage was aired Wednesday at a meeting of the Highland Township Board of Supervisors at the township building in James City.
Charlie Vaughn, chairman of the board, said the township will be sending letters to "at least two" James City residents who are failing to dispose of their garbage on a regular basis. He said the letters will direct the residents to remove the garbage or face possible sanctions under township ordinances..
Vaughn said he has observed "bags of garbage" accumulating "around people's houses." He said unleashed dogs and perhaps other animals have been "getting into the garbage."
"There are some very nasty spots," Vaughn said in discussing accumulated garbage in James City. "It's a stinking mess."
