Trimming trees along Route 66

A crew is taking advantage of unusually mild early December weather to begin work to trim trees along Route 66 in the Allegheny National Forest south of Kane. The falling branches from the trimming are put through a “chipping” machine on the berm of the road. The wood chips are deposited on the forest floor. One-lane traffic is maintained with the use of automated electronic signals instead of human “flaggers.”
