Road improvement projects are slated this summer in Wetmore Township.
By Ted Lutz Republican Staff Road improvement projects are slated this summer in Wetmore Township. The township Board of Supervisors took action Tuesday for paving as well as “tar and chip” surface treatment” for several roads. The supervisors accepted a lone bid of $55,636.10 from IA Construction of Franklin for a paving project. The township this year will pave Highland Road between Spring Street and the railroad crossing near the rear of the parking lot at Kane Area High School. The paving project also includes a section of Dwight’s Road off Route 321 at the Kinzua sewage treatment plant. The 500-foot section runs east of the intersection of Dwight’s Road and Route 321. The township originally planned to pave a portion of Poplar Street. However, this paving has been postponed due to planned utility work on the street. The supervisors also acted Tuesday to accept a low quote from Suit Kote of Belmont, N.Y. for 6,400 gallons of road oil at the price of $1.54 per gallon. The oil will be used with small stones for the “tar and chip” surface treatment on sections of West Kane Road, Old Mill Road and Maple Street. This project is slated in July. In other business at the 67-minute meeting at the township building, the supervisors: *Accepted a low quote of $3,487 from Emerling Chevrolet of Western New York for a nine-foot snowplow. *Received notice from Secretary-Treasurer Elaine Bodistow that she is renewing a certificate of deposit (CD) for three months. The interest earned for the $496,000 CD is only 1.07 percent, she said. The CD is invested with the Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust (PLGIT) fund. *Received notice that the McKean County Planning Commission has approved a subdivision plan requested by Robert and Connie Grenz of 228 Northwest Road. A 3.28-acre section of Grenz property is being transferred to neighbors Scott and Bev Austin. *Approved a request from Stephanie Hayduk for a sewage holding tank at a site on Route 6 near the Pine Haven Veterinary Clinic. She plans to operate a combination ice cream store and gift shop at the location. *Received notice that the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has approved a permit for Tim Koza of Koza Water Hauling of Route 66, Wetmore Township. The approval will enable Koza to spread brine to control dust on roads and other areas listed in the permit. *Received that Jeff Kepler of Lamont has offered to donate a swing set for use at the East Kane Park. The township plans to inspect the swing set before accepting the donation. *Received notice from Supervisor Steve Dyne that he still is “reviewing” a proposed five-year road paving plan. The plan will be shared with utility companies to avoid “cuts” in newly paved roads. *Agreed to purchase new “tracks” for a township excavator. Quotes will be obtained from suppliers.
