By Tasha Mattis Special to The Kane Republican This past weekend, the streets of Kane were bustling with people as everyone came out to enjoy the Taste of Kane. “The food was very good, and this is a wonderful opportunity to see people that you don’t see all the time,” said Miranda Ackley and Stefanie Freeman, which sums up many people’s thoughts of the event. Those in attendance were having a good time and enjoying the food. People were eating snow cones, popcorn, kielbasa burgers, steak hoagies, subs, pizza, and mix up drinks and all kinds of baked goods, such as cupcakes, fudge and cookies. The prince and princess contest winners will be announced at the circus on July 10, and the quilt raffle winner will be announced at the Relay for Life on July 11. Many groups and stores were involved including Roma Gardens Pizza, West Side Grill, the Buckhorn, the Sweet Shoppe, Kaffe So’l, Avon, Mary Kay, Mix Ups!, Little League and the Relay for Life. Many vendors set on the street fundraising as well. Joyce and Bill Reinard ran a booth for the SPCA. The English family was up all day and night preparing fresh baked goods for the Great American Bake Sale, which feeds hungry children within the United States. For Ken Forsyth, the Taste of Kane was a wonderful day. “The community needs to come together and do things like this more often,” Forsyth said.
