The United Fund is seeking to raise $35,000 to benefit area health and human-service agencies.
The annual Kane Area United Fund campaign has reached the midway point with about two months to go.
The goal is $35,000 for the fundraising drive that benefits 19 area community-service agencies for children, adults and animals. Joanne Perry, a member of the volunteer United Way, recently added on to the “thermometer,” which is displayed adjacent to the Kane Post Office on Fraley Street. The “thermometer” shows the progress of the community drive, which began last month. The agencies served by the United Fund include: - Boy Scouts. - Girl Scouts. - 4-H Club. - Meals on Wheels for senior citizens. - Kane Area Recreation and Cultural Commission (KARCC). - Kane Area Little League. - American Red Cross. - Kane Senior Center. - McKean County CARE. - Futures. - Guidance Center. - Victim’s Resource Center. - Visiting Nurses Association. - Kane Home Health. - Friends Memorial Library. - Kane Family Center. - Kane Community Center. - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). - Kane Area Soccer Association. Jennifer Macey, president of the United Fund board, said money donated to the United Fund “helps every generation.” “Contributions to the United Fund directly relate to the enjoyment of living in the Kane area,” Macey said. She said the 19 agencies served by the United Fund are “counting on the generosity” of the community to “continue to provides services and activities” for Kane area residents. As Macey pointed out, money donated to the United Fund stays in the community. Administrative costs of only seven percent primarily are for postage. The United Fund does not have a paid staff. The United Fund board is comprised of Kane area residents. In addition to Perry and Macey, the United Fund Board of Directors includes David Walters, vice president; Karen Carty, secretary; Stacy Lindquist, treasurer; and Kathy Gibson, Jayne Peterson and Jay Israel. Macey is hoping the community will continue to support the United Fund, which has the same $35,000 goal as last year. The drive is scheduled to end Dec. 31, but Macey is hoping the campaign could wrap up sooner if people promptly come forward with donations. Many businesses join with their employees in donating to the United Fund. Drop off contributions to the United Fund at the United Fund office in the Chamber of Commerce building at 54 Fraley St., Kane.
