Stanley A. Besse, 99, formerly of 342 Pennsylvania Ave., died on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at the Lutheran Home at Kane. He was born on Dec. 29, 1910, in East Kane, son of Charles I. and Maytie Blair Besse. On July 7, 1973, in Kane, he married Dorothy Anderson Kirkpatrick, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Queen Kifer Besse. He had been a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kane, a 58-year member of Kane Lodge #566 F.& A.M., the BPOE #329 of Kane, in which he was the oldest living member; the American Legion Post#250; and was a former member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Before his retirement in 1973, he had been employed in sales for Montgomery Ward for 31 years. He is survived by two nieces, Karen Burton of Kane and Kathleen Anderson of Warren; plus several other nieces and nephews out of state. He was preceded in death by his wives; parents, and three sisters, Lena McKlinock, Anna Bloomquist and Frances Besse. Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m., at which time funeral services will be conducted by The Rev. David Pflieger.
