Gary “G.R.” Holmes, 55, of 9 Pine Avenue, Kane, died on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at the Kane Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 16, 1954, in Kane, he was the son of R. Wayne and Alma L. Berggren Holmes. After graduating from Kane Area High School, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War, and later was a sales manager for Kane Hardwood. He was a member of VFW #1132 in Kane, the Wilcox Sportsmen’s Club and the Kinzua Valley Trail Club. He was an avid skier and hiker, and enjoyed motorcycles, cars, animals and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He is survived by a sister, Ann (Wayne) Chapman of Kane; two brothers, Fred (Mary) Holmes and Lee Holmes, both of Kane, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a service will be held there with the rev. David Pflieger, Chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane. Memorial contributions may be made to the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Avenue, Bradford, PA 16701, or to the church or charity of the donor’s choice.
