Catrina Retterer, a Clarendon native, is the newest member of the Kane Borough Police Department. A 2003 graduate of Sheffield High School, Retterer will work for the police department on a part-time basis. She is now training in the borough and will be handling regular shifts in about two weeks, according to Kane Police Chief Brian Hillard.
Retterer fills a void in the police department created when Police Officer Vincent Cimino was called to active military duty with the Marines in Afghanistan. Scott Goldthwaite, who has been working for the borough as a part-time police officer, will fill in for Cimino. Goldthwaite also is a Sheffield native. Jason Slater also is a regular part-time officer with the Kane Police Department, which also includes full-time officers Derrick Snyder, Heath Boyer and Bill Nichols. Retterer received a degree in criminal justice from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. She also completed training at the Police Academy at the North East campus of Mercyhurst College. While in high school in Sheffield, Retterer played softball, basketball and volleyball and was a member of the track team. She also played softball at Pitt-Bradford. Working in Kane will be Retterer's first job as a police officer. In related police news, Chief Hillard is asking Kane residents to remember Kane Police Officer Steve Jerman, who was killed in the line of duty on Feb. 20, 1999. Kane Police Chief Brian Hillard welcomes Catrina Retterer as a new part-time police officer in Kane. She is a 2003 graduate of Sheffield High School.
