Several criminal cases brought before District Justice Michael Kennedy of Kane are headed to McKean County Court.

Information on the following cases is from official court documents:

•Dawn Marie Gochenaur, 35, of New Cumberland is charged with forgery for presenting a bogus payroll check for $252.61 at the Mt. Jewett Shur-Save.

The counterfeit check listed a Smethport business, which does not exist. The check also lists the defendant's address in Smethport. However, this address is "a non-existing past or current street address," according to court records.

Gochenaur allegedly asked the store to cash the check for groceries for her children.

The defendant also faces four other charges related to the incident Feb. 20.

Mt. Jewett Police Officer Nataliya Miroslavna filed the charges.

Gochenaur remains in the McKean County Prison in lieu of $30,000 cash bail. The defendant is represented by Public Defender Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer.

The defendant has until Aug. 21 to enter a plea in county court.

•Shane Anthony Hurlburt, 18, of 121 Fraley St., Apt. 1, faces several charges linked with an assault with a knife.

Hurlburt is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly using a knife to "slice" the arm of a 16-year-old boy in Evergreen Park on April 17. The defendant allegedly approached the victim and "told him he was going to gut him like a deer." Hurlburt also punched the victim in the face, court records show.

The defendant was located at his residence where police also found "several weapons and drug paraphernalia."

The charges were filed by Kane Police Officer Derrick Snyder. Hurlburt has posted $10,000 bail and has until Aug. 21 to enter a plea in county court. He is represented by Vettenburg-Shaffer.

In a related case, Hurlburt is charged with making a false report to police officers. While being held at the holding cell at the Kane Police Station, the defendant allegedly stated that he was "kicked in the face and head by three police officers involved in his arrest."

Kane Police Chief Brian Hillard filed this charge. According to court documents, Chief Hillard observed Hurlburt "pulling himself up against the inside of the call and banging around inside." The chief also observed the defendant "on the floor thrashing around and hitting himself."

Hurlburt also has until Aug. 21 to enter a plea on this charge.

•Justin "Frosty" Foster, 19, of 130 Maple St., Kane, is charged with retail theft, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and underage drinking.

He allegedly removed a pizza and two boxes of Hot Pockets from the former Uni-Mart Store on Fraley Street. The items are valued at $13.97.

The defendant reportedly admitted that he drank a 20-pack of beer and a bottle of vodka. While at the Kane Police Station, Foster allegedly used "loud language" after being told several times to "quiet down."

Kane Police Officer William Nichols filed the charges for the incident April 17.

Foster is represented by Vettenburg-Shaffer. He has posted $500 cash bail and has until Aug. 21 to enter a plea in county court.

•Daniel Gillespie, 21, of James City is charged with assault, criminal mischief and harassment following an incident March 23 at the Leonard Camp on Johnson Road, about a mile south of Wetmore Road .

The defendant allegedly struck Gordon Earl Markert several times in the face, causing multiple bruises, cuts and a broken nose. He also allegedly damaged the victim's pickup truck by ripping the keys from the ignition and breaking the driver's side window..

The charges were filed by State Police Trooper Timothy Lencer. Gillespie is free on $2,500 unsecured bail and is to have no contact with the victim. He has until July 24 to enter a plea in county court.
