Johan Dunback and his daughter Victoria and son Johannes take time to enjoy a beautiful morning in Mt. Jewett. When
walking up to Carol and Butch Keller's home you could smell breakfast
they had just completed. The breakfast however wasn't just for the
Keller's but for their guests, Johan Dunback and his two children,
Victoria, eight years old and Johannes, 10 years of age. Johan was a
Rotary Exchange Student sponsored by the Mt. Jewett Rotary Club during
the 1990 - 91 school year at Kane Area High School and stayed with the
Keller's and Don and Doris Paulson.
Dunback is from Vasteras, Sweden. He has been a single father of two for about four years and has been a lumber salesman for 10 years. After Dunback's time here as an exchange student, he returned to Sweden to complete his high school education and graduated in 1992. He then went into the military from 1992 to 93. While in the military he studied Russian. In 1994 he began college at Opola University where he majored in Eastern European Business Studies. He graduated in 1996. In 1997 his first job was at Toftan Sawmill in Estonia, where he worked until 2001. Dunback then went to Hagge Sawmill in Sweden, where he was the managing director and was there from 2001-2006. Along with the work at Hagge Sawmill, he was also the managing director of Sater Sawmill from 2004-2006. Then in 2007, he was recruited to the Setra Company where he works in sales. In talking about his work as a lumber salesman Dunback said, "there is a big market for soft wood lumber throughout the middle east and North Africa. There is a big increase in building in these areas." Dunback , his daughter Victoria and son Johannes had been in the United States since July 20 visiting. They went to Washington, D.C., then to Florida to Disney World and visited Don and Doris Paulson, then on to Mt. Jewett to visit a few days with Carol and Butch Keller. They left August 6. When asked what he likes about Mt. Jewett, Dunback said, "it is a lot like Sweden which makes me feel comfortable". Asked what he remembered the most about going to school at Kane High and what was different compared to school in Sweden, Dunback said, "every one was friendly and I made friends that have lasted. The school was somewhat the same, the big difference was that the history class was American history, the other classes were pretty much the same type of classes." Asking Victoria what she liked the most about our country she said, "Disney World and all the shopping". And asking the same question of Johannes he said, "Disney World and ice cream". He explained that the ice cream here has a different taste than it does back home. Dunback said that he enjoyed his time as an exchange student and is thankful for the good friends he made and still has. "Due to time, we were unable to visit all my friends this time, but that means that we will have to come back soon. It has been a pleasure."
