By Ted Lutz Republican Staff Two educators from Thailand visited Kane earlier this week to meet with some of the students and teachers at the Chestnut Street Elementary School. Wuth Ratreeprug is chairman of the English Department at a secondary school in Thailand. He stayed with Tom and Lisa Gustafson of Kane during his visit to the area. Mrs. Gustafson is a world language teacher at Johnsonburg High School. Kanyarat Waikham, chairman of the English Department at a different secondary school in Thailand, stayed with George and Dori Thorwart of Wilcox during her visit. Mrs. Thorwart is a secretary at Johnsonburg High School. Both Thai educators hold master’s degrees. The Thai educators are part of a 10-member Thai professional delegation now visiting the U.S. The educators are participating in the Fulbright Teacher Program. The educators arrived in San Francisco earlier this month and spent a week in Washington, D.C. to learn about the U.S. education system. “The purpose of their visit is to not only learn about the American educational system, but to share information about Thailand, Thai culture and the Thai language with American students and teachers,” a spokesman for the local visit said. In addition to Kane, the Thai educators visited several other area schools, including Johnsonburg.
