Walter B. "Ben" Ishman

Walter B. "Ben" Ishman, 79, of 12783 Route 948 in Highland, died Wednesday afternoon, April 27, 2011 in the emergency room of the Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 2, 1932 in Sackett, he was the son of Walter M. and Elma C. Rae Ishman. On May 5, 1951 in DeYoung, he married Sara A. Nelson, who survives.
Mr. Ishman owned and operated Ishman's Garage for many years, and also was a school bus contractor for the Kane Area School District for many years.
He attended the First United Methodist Church in Kane, and was a former member of Tabor Lutheran Church in Kane, where he served on Church Council. He was President and Sexton of the Highland Cemetery for many years, and belonged to Kane Lodge #566 F&AM.  An avid hunter and fisherman, he wintered in Florida where he also enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, golf and shuffleboard.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, Walter B. Ishman, Jr. of Stoneboro, Timothy J. Ishman of Highland, Dale A. Ishman of Derry and Michael W. Ishman of Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Catherine M. Kunicki of Pocatello, Idaho, Betty L. Wilson of Kane, Dawna E. Ishman of Ridgway and Kimberly A. Detrick of Kane; two sisters, Genevieve Dixon of Smethport and Georgie Kaber of Shelby, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a grandson, Shawn Wilson; sisters Edith Geer and Lois Geer, plus a sister and two brothers in infancy.
Kane Lodge #566 F&AM will hold a service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane today (Friday) from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and may attend a service there at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the rev. Martin Reynolds, pastor of the Clarendon and Tiona United Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
