William J. “Buzz” Paris

Mr. William J. “Buzz” Paris, 80, unexpectedly passed into the next life at his residence, Monday, Dec. 26, 2011.
He was born March 23, 1931 in Butler to the late William V. and Laura Smead Paris.
Mr. Paris served in the in the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict as a Sgt. and D.I. of the 1st Marine Division. As an area resident, he owned and operated Buzz’s Saw Shop, was self-employed as an independent logger and named 2000 Logger of the Year by AHUG, worked for his son Bud as a logger, Nortrim Logger’s Insurance Co., and a Sheffield Police Officer.
Buzz was a tireless area volunteer for many organizations including St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Marine Corps League, and Sheffield Food Pantry. He was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Life member Sheffield VFW Post #8755, 1st Division Marine Corps League, and honorary member of Sheffield VFD.
He enjoyed woodworking and won first place apple pie at the Johnny Appleseed Festival.
Buzz is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Hoden Paris, whom he married at Holy Redeemer on Oct. 1, 1955; two daughters, Maryanne Paris, Sheffield, and Veronica P. English and husband Paul, Kane; two sons, William J. “Buddy” Paris, Jr. and wife Patricia, Warren, and Scott Paris, Sheffield; eight grandchildren, John and Alec English, and Haylie, Sydney, Tori, Beau, Teagan, and Lexi Paris; two sisters, Lorraine Ownsby, Arizona, and Mary Jane Blum, Titusville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Buzz was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia and Jean Ann, and a brother, Robert, in infancy.
A Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church with rev. Fr. Roy Schubert officiating. Friends will be received at the church Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. Prastas will be at 7:30 p.m.
