The Kane girls soccer team put together one of their best efforts of the year Saturday as they shutout Port Allegany 3-0.
"[Saturday's] game was something that was definitely needed for our girls team. Everything we have been working on in practice this past week was demonstrated throughout the game," said Coach Allie Saquin.
Taylor Bucheit had the first goal, unassisted, in just under five minutes in the first half which helped to set the tone for the rest of the game. After that, the girls were ready to play their game.
"We outnumbered Port Allegany with shots on goal, almost tripling theirs," Saquin said. "Jesse Ogorek ended up with her first shutout of the season with help from the sweeper, Brittany Kowatch.
"Hayleee Mague, Cara Lorenzo and Shyanne Todd helped secure the shutout as well as provide support for our offense. They involved themselves with the midfield and it truly made a difference with our attacks. Our outside midfielders, Chanda Paup and Dawn Saquin worked hard on getting the ball down the field and had some really nice crosses in front of the goal."
According to Saquin, scoring opportunities were presented for Kane all day. Â
"Bucheit and Andrea Walker had a lot of one on one chances on goal with the defense and keeper, but just couldn't put them in," Saquin said. "Kelsey Johnson, Emily Steele and Sara Mohney worked well in center midfield transitioning the ball from defense and switching from one side of the field to the other.
