The Kane Cross Country runners look to follow up a successful 2011 season as they move up a classification in District 9.
Two members of last year’s boys team and two members of last year’s girls team ran in the PIAA tournament, and head coach Adam Smelko and his assistants Rich Hunt and Matt Gasbarre are hoping to have even more Wolves make the trip this season.
Senior captain Avery Colson will lead the way for the Wolves. Colson was one of the two runners from the boys’ team to run at states, along with Jon Gelsick. Chris Hunt is the other captain of the boys’ team.
According to coach Smelko, Hunt, along with fellow junior Dan Blackmore, recorded the most miles during the summer. It is effort like the two of them put forth that will “likely lead to their individual and team success,” according to the coach.
