The Kane Wolves soccer team traveled to St. Marys to take on the Dutchmen on Tuesday afternoon.
Kane already played St. Marys at home three weeks ago and came away with a one-goal loss. Despite the loss in the previous match Kane generated little offense and got beat in the middle of the field. The Wolves knew they would need to bulk up the central part of the field and generate more offense to have a chance to win the game.
Kane began the game in a somewhat conservative mode with speed on the back line and two defenders at the top of the diamond. The Wolves also had two central midfielders, leaving only one forward up top. The Dutchmen came right out of the gates and got on the board just two minutes in. Kane played a solid first half and created a number of decent scoring opportunities, but were just unable to find the net.
The second half was played with a lot of intensity by both teams, and the game became very physical. Nearing the end of the second half, the Wolves still trailed by one goal. In an attempt to try to tie the game and send it to overtime, Kane brought up a number of defenders to bring about a stronger offensive attack. The Wolves continued to play hard, and with just two minutes remaining senior Sam Anderson was reportedly pushed in the St. Marys goal box. After the referee blew the whistle, it appeared Kane would have the opportunity to tie the game with a penalty kick.
