Unusually strong low pressure at the surface and aloft will move slowly northeast from the Ohio Valley through the middle Atlantic region throughout the weekend.
Widespread heavy rain will fall and the risk for flooding, especially on smaller streams and creeks, will be high.
A flood watch remains in effect through late Saturday night. Elk and McKean counties are listed among the extensive list of affected counties.

Camper dies in ANF during storm

WARREN – A fierce thunderstorm in northwestern Pennsylvania resulted in the death of a camper who was camping with a church group in a remote area of the Allegheny National Forest. The storm came through the Minister Creek Campground around 6 a.m. Tuesday causing power outages and wide-spread downed trees.

Kane fire call

The Kane Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched Monday afternoon when a fire alarm activated at Kane Community Hospital.
Fire Chief Tim Holt said the alarm was inadvertently set off during maintenance work at the hospital. No fire was found.
The "tower" truck was en route to the hospital when firemen were recalled, the chief said.

School, firemen complying with child protection law

The Kane Area School District and the Kane Volunteer Fire Department are among many local organizations complying with the new state Child Protective Services law.
Under the law adopted in December, virtually anyone who comes into contact with children as part of their job or volunteerism must obtain clearances by July 1.
As part of the process, applicants need to obtain a criminal history check from the State Police and a "child abuse history" clearance from the state Department of Human Services.

Volunteer firemen hold joint training exercise in Kane

The Kane Volunteer Fire Department hosted a joint training exercise Monday evening with the Ludlow and Wilcox volunteer fire departments.
The training took place in the parking lot at Kane High School.
The firemen connected hoses to a fire hydrant near the rear of the parking lot at the school. The "tower" truck from Kane was the featured piece of equipment in the training.

Hamilton Township sees another drop in forestry money

LUDLOW – When the Hamilton Township Supervisors put together the budget for 2015, they allowed for a decrease in forestry money. The township receives a share of profits from timber sales within the Allegheny National Forest, and with timber sales declining steadily over the past few years, the township’s share has gone down accordingly.
