Kane council hears call to cut police coverage

September 30, 2014

Kane residents attending a budget-input meeting Monday are calling for a reduction in the hours of on-duty borough police coverage.
The police department, headed by Chief Heath Boyer, now provides around-the-clock protection in the borough every day of the year.
Speakers told the Kane Borough Council Monday that the borough could save money by cutting on-duty coverage. Instead of providing 24/7 coverage by an on-duty police officer, the borough could assign policemen to "on-call" status. During "on-call" duty, designated police officers would respond from home only when needed.
