Rams advance to state title game over Lincoln Park

March 20, 2013

Johnsonburg's Cole Peterson, 12, drives to the bucket during the second half of Tuesday night's PIAA Class A semifinal game against the Lincoln Park Leopards played at Clarion University. Peterson reached the 1,000-point plateau with his first nine points of the game. He finished the night with 22 points.

CLARION – Of Johnsonburg's 30 wins this season, Tuesday's was the sweetest one of all.
So sweet, in fact, that the Rams earned a trip to Hershey and the school's first appearance in a PIAA championship game.
Johnsonburg advanced to the PIAA Class A championship game with a 59-53 win over Lincoln Park at Clarion University in the PIAA semifinal round held Tuesday night.
Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said the Rams believed they could win even with Lincoln Park having four Division I recruits and reaching the state final the last two seasons.
"No one told them that," Shuey said. "They believed they could win. This group of kids are all-out competitors. They found a way to equalize their height and they said 'Our speed will do that.' I think at times it showed. They were confident. I knew going in we had a chance. I think the kids probably believed it more than I did. I was really concerned about their pressure but we handled the pressure very well."
