Grace Iva Oddy

March 22, 2013

Grace Iva Oddy, 63, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at her residence in Ludlow.
Born May 20, 1949, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Ernest  and Alma Belle Houpt Graeser. On Jan. 30, 1969, in Philadelphia, she married Richard Oddy who survives.
Mrs. Oddy was a member of the Olivet Covenant Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.
Grace and  Richard met in 1955 when they were five years old and he actually married the girl next door. They were raised in Philadelphia where she graduated from Bok Vocational High School and studied to be a seamstress, graduating in 1967. They wed three days before her husband reported for service duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Navy. They joked about her being a "Navy Seagull" as wives were called because they followed the fleet.
For two years they lived in Bremerton, Wash., then returned to Philadelphia in 1972 where they lived until 2003 when they began a search and found their next home in the beautiful village of Ludlow where Grace loved the peace and quiet compared to the city life.
Grace and Richard's love story continued for 58 years and they were married for 44 years. She was his best friend and he will miss her deeply until their reunion with God. "Fair winds and following seas my love" is Richard's wish for Grace.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by three brothers, William Graeser, Charles Graeser and Ernest Graeser and her mother-in-law, Irene Oddy Houpt.
There will be public services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family; Mr. Richard Oddy, P.O. Box 284, Ludlow, PA 16333-0284.
