Chester F. "Chet" Peterson

Chester F. "Chet" Peterson, 85, of 804 Welsh St., Kane, died Thursday evening, May 23, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 30, 1928 in Kane, he was the son of John and Nellie Peterson Peterson. On April 26, 1952 in Kane, he married Frances D. McCauley, who survives.
Mr. Peterson worked as a tool and die maker in the machine shop at Stackpole in Kane for 40 years. Later, he was a part-time bus driver for the ATA.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had FBI and CIA top secret clearance and was trained as a cryptographic technician in the first constabulary brigade in Germany from 1946 to 1949. After being discharged, he was recalled to the Army when the Korean War began and served in the 22nd AAA in Okinawa.
Chet belonged to Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane where he served as an usher. He volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Meals on Wheels, the Kane Food Pantry and Angel Food Ministries.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son James Peterson and a daughter Robin (Tom) Kerr, both of Kane; two sisters, Jennie Swanson of Sheffield and Marian Davis of Warren, plus four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, besides his parents, are five brothers: Carl, Henry, Arnold, Paul and Erven; a sister, Myrtle Coleman, and a son, Joseph Peterson.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., followed by a service at noon at Tabor Lutheran Church with the rev. Bill Waterman, pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Kane.
