Robert A. Larson, 92, of 119 Poplar St., Kane, died Friday morning, June 28, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he recently resided.
Born May 16, 1921 in Kane, he was the son of Harry C. and Anna C. Benson Larson. On July 12, 1952 in Kane, he married Helen E. Withington, who survives.
A 1939 graduate of Kane Area High School, Mr. Larson served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946, serving in the Pacific Theatre and was stationed at Iwo Jima.Â He was an instructor of range finding units in Camp Stewart, Ga., and was discharged as a Tech Sergeant.
He worked for West Penn Power in State College, then as a truck driver for George Bertch Company.Â He retired as head custodian for the Kane Area School District in 1983 after 27 years of service.
Bob was a member of Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane, where he served on the Church Council, Men in Mission and the Tabor Mates.Â He belonged to the American Legion Post #250 in Kane, AARP, the Kane Fish & Game Club, and was a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Meals on Wheels and the Kane Food Pantry.Â He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and walking.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Randall A. (Karen) Larson of Swissvale and Jeffrey A. Larson of Kane.Â Preceding him in death, besides his parents, are two sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend a service at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at Tabor Lutheran Church with the rev. Bill Waterman, pastor, and the rev. David Pflieger, Chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, co-officiating.Â Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane.
