Merle D. Peters, 84, of 431 Smithfield, Kane, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at his residence.
Born Aug. 11, 1928, in Sergeant, he was a son of the late Ollie and Hattie McDonald Peters.Â On Sept. 12, 1947, in Johnsonburg, he married Norma Akers who preceded him in death.
Mr. Peters worked as a trackman for Conrail for many years.Â He served in the National Guard during World War II.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Peters of Warren and Darwin Peters ofÂ Kansas; two daughters, Chrystal (Todd) Burgeson of Brockway and Kelli (Ben) Bartlein of Mt. Jewett; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife and parents, were two sisters, Beatrice Halquist and Bernice Maze; and a brother, Eugene Peters.
Friends and family may attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Kane with Pastor Bob Lynch officiating.Â Burial will be at McKean Memorial Park.
