Jack D. Safreed

Jack D. Safreed, 87, of 14 Oberg Ave., Mt. Jewett, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Oct. 27, 1925, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of John and Laura Best Safreed. On Aug. 13, 1983, at Lake Tahoe, he married Patricia Dinsmore who survives.
Mr. Safreed was employed by  the Bechtel Company and was a millwright by trade. His work consisted mainly of building nuclear power plants.
During World War II he served in the Navy Air Corps as a gunnery instructor. He was a member of the BPOE #329, the Beaver Falls Masonic Lodge, the American Legion Post #574 in Mt. Jewett and Lebanon Lutheran Church. Also, he was an avid gardener and loved to spend time with his wife and enjoyed being with his dog "Reggie".
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Janet Safreed of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three sons, Randy (Laurie) Safreed of Lake Elsinore, Calif., John (Joy) Safreed of Deland, Fla. and Kevin Safreed of Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including Rick (Shauna) Miller of Johnsonburg and Cheri O'Mara of Bradford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Friends and family may attend a memorial service at Lebanon Lutheran Church in Kanesholm at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Theodore Benson, pastor, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Jewett Ambulance, Mt. Jewett VFD or Lebanon Lutheran Church.
The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett is in charge of arrangements.
