Gloria A. Barber, 83, of Mt. Jewett, died at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 after a brief illness.
The former Gloria Ann Peters was born Nov. 4, 1929, the daughter of George and Helen Kalinowski Peters.Â On Nov. 22, 1952, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mt. Jewett, she married Robert W. Barber who preceded her in death on July 12, 2011.
A graduate of Mt. Jewett Senior High School, Class of 1947, she was employed at the former Swanson Triangle Grocery Store and Temple Beauty Aids.
Mrs. Barber was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society and a former catechism teacher.Â She was also a lifetime member and past president of the Mt. Jewett American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Robert L. (Beth) Barber of New Castle; a daughter, Karen A. Barber of Rockville, Md.; grandchildren Robert Lee and Brittani Lee of New Castle; a brother, George A. Peters of Mt. Jewett; a sister-in-law, Mary K. (James) Peters; nephews George W. (Natalie) Peters of Glendale, Calif. and John C. Peters of Chesapeake, Va.; a great niece, Gloria Geary Peters who was named after Mrs. Barber; and two cousins, Mrs. Loretta Slattery and John Phillips of DuBois.
Friends and family will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 and from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Vincent Cieslewicz, pastor, officiating.Â Burial will be at Bridgeview Cemetery.
