John J. "Jay" Carlson, 79, formerly of 418 Park Ave, Kane, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Transitions HealthcareÂ Autumn Grove in Harrisville.
Born March 9, 1934, in Kane, he was a son of J. Walter and Natalie Kempf Carlson. On May 1, 1954, in Kane, he married Shirley A. Williams who preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1999.
Before his retirement, Jay was the owner of the former Kane Decorating Co. which was started by his grandfather Julius. He belonged to Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a former Borough Council President.Â Jay was also a Past Exalted Ruler of the Kane Elks Lodge #329, a member of the F & AM Kane Lodge #566 and the Kane VFW.
Surviving are two sons, James (Jeannine) Carlson of Butler and Mark (Donna) Carlson of Barnegat, N.J.; three daughters, Natalie Lundgren (Chuck Busch) of Smethport, Lisa (Mark) Hottel of Kane and Lynn (Robert) Moyer of Green Bay, Wisc.; 14 grandchildren, Eric and Christopher Lundgren, Jessica and John Carlson, Joe and Tony Liquori, Matthew Carlson, Chelise and Janelle Hottel, Robbie, Joshua, Megan, Chelsea and Jarod Moyer; one great-granddaughter, Fiona Liquori; a brother, Richard (Nancy) Carlson of Ohio; a sister, Irene (Jack) Bish of Mt. Jewett; and numerous nieces and nephews.Â He will be greatly missed by his walking companion, his granddog, Hannah.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter N. Carlson; a sister, Eugenia M. Thompson; and a special friend, Sally McCracken.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. William D. Waterman, pastor of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.Â Burial will be at Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
A noon luncheon will follow the funeral service at the Kane Elks Lodge.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kane Elks Scholarship Fund, the McKean County SPCA , the American Cancer Society or donor's choice.
