Adventures of a Wildlife Photographer - "Saw-Whet"

January 5, 2014

Photo by Rocky Holland – The tiny Saw-whet owl posed for me one dark night in the Allegheny National Forest.

Birds of prey have always been a fascination of mine. Just to drive down the road and get a glimpse of a red-tail hawk sitting on a branch, is a rush for me. Why do I get excited about a hawk sitting on a branch you might wonder. It’s because the hawk just isn’t sitting there doing nothing he, or she, is actually hunting. For a hawk, or most birds of prey, making a kill almost daily is a must for their survival.
