Winter wildlife feeding suspected in bull elk's death

This 6-by-7-point bull elk was found dead Jan. 9 in the town of Byrnedale, Elk County. A necropsy performed on the animal revealed its death likely resulted from supplemental winter feeding, which is illegal for elk and can do more harm than good for other wildlife.

BYRNEDALE – A trophy bull elk was found dead earlier this month on Pennsylvania’s elk range, the apparent victim of winter wildlife feeding, which is illegal for elk. Deer and elk are among the animals that can die if grains suddenly become part of their diets.
