Adventures of a Wildlife Photographer – "Photography - 2013"

January 29, 2014

Photo by Rocky Holland – I finally photographed an Evening Grosbeak in 2013, along with some other exciting nature.

The year 2013 started out very slowly for this nature photographer, as it usually does. The January cold and snow keeping me indoors, or shoveling snow most of the time, as the cabin fever was about to set in for another long and cold winter season. Then, the first call of the year came in, telling me of evening grosbeaks being seen in the area. I always wanted a picture of the elusive yellow bird from the North, but in recent years they had not been plentiful in our area. 2013 would be different as many of the evening grosbeaks ventured into our county, thus assuring me of my first good portrait of this colorful bird. Although it was only January of 2013, I was encouraged by the early bird sightings, thinking this might be a great year for nature photography.
