Donald Kaltenbach

Donald Kaltenbach, 89, of 10 Division St., Mt. Jewett, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born July 13, 1924, in Mt. Jewett, he was a son of the late Harry and Irene Scott Kaltenbach. He was raised by his grandmother, Blanche Goodman. On April 29, 1950, in Hazel Hurst, he married Jeanette Rosenswie who preceded him in death in 2008.
Mr. Kaltenbach was a logger who worked as a logging contractor for various companies in the area.
He served with the U.S. Marines at the battle of Iwo Jima and  is one of the few surviving veterans of that battle in this area.
He was a member of the Mt. Jewett American Legion Post 574 and belonged to the Mt. Jewett Sportsman's Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Cathryn Kaltenbach of Mt. Jewett; two grandsons, Gary (Lorna) Smith of Lewis Run and Matthew (Tiffany) Smith of Youngsville; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Vincent Cieslewicz, pastor, officiating. Military services will be conducted at the church after mass.  Burial will be at Bridgeview Cemetery.
The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett is in charge of arrangements.
