Derek M. Wilson

Derek M. Wilson, 29, formerly of Kane, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at his home in Fort Collins, Colo.
He was born Nov. 1, 1984 in Kane to Beverly L. Wilson and Terry A. Wasurek, and was raised by his mother and Daniel Rook of Kane.
After graduating from Kane Area High School, he joined the U.S. Army for eight years, became an Army Ranger and served two tours, one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan, then was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Derek was a member of the Gold Prospectors Association of America, a hobby he greatly enjoyed.
Surviving, in addition to his parents and "dad" are a daughter, Kylee Wilson of Ft. Collins; his grandmother, Rosemond Wilson of Kane; plus several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Carl Wilson Sr.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with the rev. Rebecca Taylor, pastor of The Presbyterian Church in Kane, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Kane.
