Steve Timpano recently presented a check to Bill Bloom, a longtime volunteer and current member of Friends’ Memorial Public Library Board of Directors, for the Library’s annual fund drive.
Steve is the president of the Kane Lions Club, which has always been extremely generous, not only to the library, but to many other organizations and needy individuals in Kane and the surrounding area.
This year, the fund drive coincides with the 25th anniversary of the library at their current location on Chase Street. The In-Town Library, as it was once named, was established in 1982 at the present day Presbyterian Church. The need for a local library arose when the library on Chestnut Street was moved to the new high school location on Route 321, making it difficult, if not impossible, for many local citizens to use that facility. In 1984 there was a contest to rename the “In-Town Library.”
