Judith "Judy" A. Barner

May 19, 2014

Judith "Judy" A. Barner, 69, of Van Ettan Avenue, Sheffield, died peacefully while surrounded by her children and following a brief illness on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Warren General Hospital.
Born Oct. 22, 1944, in Kane, she was a daughter of William E. and Dorothy A. Anderson Sleeman. On Oct. 9, 1965, in Sheffield, she married Jack V. Barner, her husband and best friend, whom she had greatly missed since his death in 2009.
The most important thing in life to Judy was being there for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and was a loyal and well-loved "fixture" at almost all of her grandchildren's events. She also showed that same support for her grandchildren's friends and could be heard cheering for each and every one of them as if they were her own.
Before her retirement in 2002, Judy was employed as a registered nurse at Warren General Hospital for almost 40 years. She belonged to Bethany Lutheran Church, the Sheffield Rod & Gun Club, and the Sheffield Vets Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Jodell Barner of Sheffield; a son, Jason (Michele) Barner of Kane; two grandchildren, Alaina Barner and  Curtis Barner, both of Kane; a brother, John (Anne) Sleeman in Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral services for Judith "Judy" A. Barner will be held Thursday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Church St., Sheffield, with The Rev. David Blank, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Sheffield Cemetery.
Friends will be received at Bethany Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 21 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jack V. Barner Memorial Scholarship.
The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, is in charge of arrangements.
