Bette “Jeannine” Hefright

Bette “Jeannine” Hefright, 81, of Water Street, Johnsonburg, died following a series of illnesses on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 while at the Lutheran Home at Kane where she had resided for the past five months.
Born Oct. 12, 1932 in Johnsonburg, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Gertrude (Blumquist) Speaker. Jeannine was the oldest of the three children. 
Jeannine resided in the West End area of Johnsonburg her entire life, attending elementary and secondary schools in Johnsonburg. Upon high school graduation, she attended the Montefiore Nursing School of Pittsburgh where she obtained her BSN degree.
Upon returning to Johnsonburg, Jeannine obtained employment at Elk County General Hospital where she began a career in nursing. Mid-career, Jeannine obtained a BS in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, which allowed her to finish her career in Social Services/Utilization Review at ECGH. She retired in 1997 from ECGH after 41 years of service.
Jeannine was well known for her love of music. During her childhood days, she was active in both the high school music departments and the local drum and bugle corps. Jeannine was member of the Footlighter’s theatrical production group and loved participating in the many musical productions of the group. She was also a member of many local choral groups, both church and civic, adored traveling and participating in choral events throughout the area. Jeannine, possessing a beautiful soprano voice, sang many soloist performances to the delight of audiences. On a professional level, Jeannine performed for many weddings and funerals in the area. Family, friends, and neighbors will fondly remember Jeannine entertaining herself for hours at a time playing her piano in her home.
Jeannine was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ in Ridgway.
Jeannine was the mother of five children and the grandmother “Nana” of 11 grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters Nancy Hartman (Tom) of Kane, Lori Waddell (Gary) of East Rochester; sons Thomas Hefright of Johnsonburg, John Hefright (Kathy) of Johnsonburg, and Craig Hefright (Jennifer) of Russell; grandchildren Lynn and Daniel Hartman, Eric and Abby Waddell, Chad and Lydia Hefright, Caleb and Colby Hefright, Christian, Hope and Payton Hefright.
Surviving are a brother, Donald (Bud) Speaker (Carol) of Ridgway; and a sister, Marla Johnson (Donald) of Zephyr Hills, Fla.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harrison, in infancy.
Funeral Services for Bette “Jeannine” Hefright will be conducted on Wednesday May 28 at 11 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church, Church Street, Johnsonburg, with Pastor Stephen Fair.
Visitation will be at Ubel Funeral Home, Bridge Street, Johnsonburg, on Tuesday May 27, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
