1 reportedly dead in boating accident

RIDGWAY – Preliminary reports indicate at least one person is dead after an accident on the Clarion River in the Portland Mills area.
Emergency responders were called to the vicinity of 35080 Portland Mills Rd. in Ridgway Township for an initial report of five individuals in the water, including at least one with injuries. Elk Company 4 (Ridgway Fire Department) and Ridgway Ambulance were called at 3 p.m., and fire chief Scott Pontious later called for a swift water rescue team from Clearfield County to the scene. The coroner was requested to the scene.
STAT MedEvac helicopter was dispatched to the area before reportedly landing at the Ridgway Firemen’s Carnival Grounds.
Area fire police were dispatched to the scene for traffic and crowd control as the roadway was blocked off. At least two ambulances and PSP Ridgway were witnessed leaving the scene as the area was still cordoned off by emergency officials.
