Rev. Milton Jones retires as long-time pastor in Kane

July 13, 2014

Photo by Ted Lutz – The Rev. Milton Jones (center) has retired after a 43-year career as the pastor of the Kane Free Methodist Church. He is sharing a Bible passage with his daughter, Amy Jones-Rice (left) of Kane and his daughter-in-law, Maria Jones (right) of Kane.

Due to his carefree way of life as a young man, Kane native Milton Jones was quite an unlikely candidate for the ministry.
“I wasn’t a true Christian,” Jones said. “I’d rather go hunting and fishing than go to church.”
But he became a “changed man” in April 1955.
That’s when he and his wife accepted a neighbor’s invitation to attend a Southern Baptist Church mission near their home in Tacoma, Wash.
“We listened to the speaker,” Jones said. “I remember thinking ‘if what this guy says is true, I’m in trouble.’”
