Ronald E. Benson, 77, of 409 Welsh St., Kane, died July 14, 2014 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport, where he had been a recent resident.
Born Dec. 27, 1936 in Sheffield, he was the son of Carl H. and Kate E. Newburg Benson. On Oct. 27, 1984 in Kane, he married Pearl R. "Sis" Gerhart, who survives.
Ron was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked at Kane Gas, Light & Heating Co. for 17 years, then the U.S. Forest Service near Marshburg, the McKean Co. Landfill and later at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Kane, each for several years.
He was a member of Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane, where he was an usher and had sung in the choir. An avid hunter, he also volunteered at the Kane Food Pantry.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Tracey Mercer-Benson of Yuma, Ariz.; a son, Jamie Benson of Kane; a stepdaughter, Tamela Bostjancic of Warren; two stepsons, Robert Vaughn of James City and Douglas Vaughn of Warren; and grandchildren Sophia Mercer, Bradley Bostjancic and Mitchell Vaughn.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a son, Carl Benson, four brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., to be followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church with the rev. Bill Waterman, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
