Boni masterpiece finds home in church

July 24, 2014

Photo by Joseph Bell – Rick Boni of Ridgway recently created this wooden carving of Saint Boniface for the church in Kersey.

KERSEY – A new addition to Saint Boniface Parish is a wooden carving of the saint himself, created by Rick Boni, co-founder of Appalachian Arts Studio in Ridgway and the Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous.
The masterpiece, carved from bass wood, a favorite of the hand carvers, stands to the left of the altar in the church in Kersey.
"Father Jim Faluszczak gave me some key points that he wanted to see in the piece," Boni said, explaining the initial project took at least seven weeks to complete. "It's such a long time to focus on one piece and that really takes a lot of discipline."
