Awards Presented to Winners at Clay St
Clay Street School winners in the “My America” contest were honored last Thursday morning at an assembly held in the school library.
First place winners were Sherry Smith, Kindergarten; Lisa Seth, first grade; Lola Irwin, second grade; Sandy DeWalt, fourth grade; Scott Schul, fourth grade; Ruth Brush, fifth grade; Dan Reigel, fifth grade; Lea Zook, sixth grade and James DeWalt, sixth grade.

Building for Elderly Explained to Group
Kane Council of Republican Women enjoyed a delicious luncheon-meeting Saturday at the Kane Manor.
Robert Himes was the guest speaker. He spoke about the status of the proposed high-rise building for the elderly in Kane. Mr. Himes said the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved a 79 unit structure for Kane. An option has been taken on the site of the old Central School here, along with a residential property on the adjoining property.

Nineteen Wrestlers Competed in Tourney
Nineteen Kane Area Junior High School and elementary school wrestlers took part in the Junior Olympic wrestling tournament held at Smethport on March 6.
Seth Bloomquist, Von Nystrom and John Gannon each finished first in their weight class.

Flaming Sword Clinches Merchants League Bowling Championship
Flaming Sword won the championship in local Merchant League bowling Tuesday night at Rose Bowl Lanes.
Members of the Flaming Sword team include Louie Zarnick, Howie Davidson, Dan (Sonny) Reigel, Dick Robinson and the team captain, Tom Dinger.

Teacher and Nurse Resign in Kane Area School District
The resignations of School Nurse Mrs. Helen Frost and an English instructor at the senior high school, Mrs. Arlene Heath, were accepted with regret during the monthly meeting of the Kane Area School Board held Thursday evening in the junior high school library here.

Mark Todd Qualifies for The State Tournament
It took three tough weekends of competition after the regular season, but Kane Area Senior High School has qualified its first wrestler in the state tournament.
Heavyweight Mark Todd, who won the District Nine Section Two Class AA Tournament heavyweight title on February 27 at Punxsutawney and then won the D9AA Championship on March 6 at Clarion, finished third in the Northwest AA Regional Tournament held Friday and Saturday at Clarion to become the first Kane wrestler in the six years of the sport to qualify for the state tournament.

Kane Defeats Hubbers in Volleyball Games
With a great deal of confidence and high hopes, the Kane High girls’ volleyball teams scored big victories over the Smethport High teams yesterday in varsity and junior varsity action in the Smethport High gym.
The varsity Wolves took command as Kane’s Sandy Rossman served for three straight points in the opening minutes of the first game of the match.
