Eight Layoffs at Kane Handle
Officials at the Kane Handle Company- Finishing Division, noted that as of Friday, eight of its employees were laid off and temporarily out of work.
Kane Handle is recognized as a prime employer and industry in Kane. Richard Armstrong, manager of the local plant, stated that the division employed 43 full-time people prior to the layoff.

Apparently the legal battle over whether Hamilton Township must build a sewage treatment plant for the Village of Ludlow is headed for an appeals court ruling.

Suspect arrested in Corry slaying
A bookstore owner was arrested and charged Monday with the kidnapping of a wife of a bank manager, who was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head despite her husband’s attempt to meet ransom demands, police said.

Bizzak’s topples former champs, 17-6
Bizzak’s Sand and Gravel pounded out 17 hits en route to a 17-6 win over Mike’s Angels last night in the Kane Women’s Softball League.
Wendi Jenkins pounded three hits including a double and was the winning pitcher. She scattered seven hits and struck out two while walking none.
Amy Rich and Sally Paup added three hits apiece for the winners and Rich and Lynn Luck tripled.

Babe Ruth team finishes with thriller; win forces playoff with East Smethport
Despite squeezing a season’s worth of big plays and clutch performances into one game, Kane came out only one run ahead of Hilltop in last night’s McKean-Potter County Babe Ruth action.
But that one run was well earned as Bernie Kepler scampered home with two out in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch to give Kane the win and a chance to meet East Smethport in a one-game playoff for the league championship.

Strike at prison continues
Construction of the federal prison complex in Lafayette Township continues to remain at a standstill this week due to a union member’s strike over the hiring of a non-union insulation company to do on-site work.
