Thomas F. Kraft, 80, died unexpectedly at the Warren General Hospital on Tuesday Feb. 15, 2011.
He was born in Kane to the late Charles and Pearl Besecker Kraft on May 7, 1930. A lifelong area resident, Tom graduated from Kane High School in 1948 and entered into the Navy where he served on the U.S.S Utina during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Anderson Bakery and later at the PLCB store in Warren where he became store manager until his retirement in 1991. At the same time Tom worked in maintenance for the Sheffield Elementary School. Tom was a charter member of St. Anthony R.C. parish council. He also served his community in the SARAH organization of Sheffield; Arbor Way Tree Committee; co-organizer of Sheffield Little League Association, and former president of Independent State Store Union.
He was a beloved husband and loving father and grandfather who will be remembered for his light heart, friendly disposition and hugs.
Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Pellegrino Kraft, who he married Sept. 30, 1950 at St. Anthony church; two daughters, Marianne Pohl and husband Cliff from Monroeville, and Andrea Schultz and husband Frank of Westfield, N.Y.; two grandsons, Frank and Michael S. Shultz; two sisters, Helen VanHorn of Lockport, N.Y. and Winnie Cecchetti of Kane; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Jr, William, John and Raymond Kraft; and two sisters, Jane Gathers and Shirley Johnson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church.
