The Kane Lady Wolves look towards qualifying for the district playoffs as they beat Sheffield in four games, taking their record to 7-6.
The Wolves controlled the first set as they jumped to 14-8 and 19-9 leads.Audrey Perry (3), Cassie Whittemore (2), Morgan Nicholson (2), Nicole Shrubb (1) combined for kills at the net. Shrubb also had a block and an ace. Angie Geer (1) and Katelyn Moran (2) added aces as well. Up 20-12, freshman Taylor Morgan had a chance to play in the game and put down a kill on her first attempt. Nerissa Rich had a kill for point 22. Nikki Sicher aces point 23 and Moran tipped over point 24. The Wolves got the last point on an attack into the net by the Wolverines.
In the second set the Wolves and Wolverines battled back and forth points to a 15-13 Wolves’ lead. Five kills, a block, and 2 aces allowed the Wolves points. Whittemore continued to play well in the middle and earned two more kills for points 18 and 19. Moran tipped again and then Shrubb got a kill and ace. Getting into the game, sophomore Cheyenne Wheatley earned her first kill on the varsity for point 24. Moran tipped the last point for the win.
In the third set, the Wolverines took advantage of Wolves’ mistakes as they took their first real lead of the night 10-5.
"We were in that game mode where everything we try seems to backfire," said Kane head volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "Some of the kids were in different positions so there was a little confusion, but it was a chance for everyone to play." The Wolves couldn’t generate much offense, only getting four kills in the set.
