MT. JEWETT – The Mt. Jewett Regional Sewer Authority voted 5-0 Tuesday evening to adopt a 2012 budget that retains the same sewer rates.
Chairman Patrick McGuire joined with authority members Mike Wennerstrom, Larry Ross, Scott Hungiville and Brett Morgan to approve the budget that carries for $139,738 in expenditures. Ron McElroy, the sixth member of the board, did not attend the meeting.
Most of the residential sewer customers in Mt. Jewett will continue to pay $50 per quarter or $200 per year for sewer service. This rate-- which figures to be $16.67 per month-- covers the first 4,000 gallons of water usage.
Barb Harp, secretary-treasurer for the authority, said "most residential" customers pay this basic rate for sewage. The quarterly rate rises by $3 for every additional 1,000 gallons of water usage. There are 452 customers served by the Mt. Jewett sewage system.
The budget carries modest pay raises. Harp's pay will rise from $13.38 per hour to $14 per hour. Rod Peterson, the sewage treatment operator, will see a pay increase of 70 cents per hour from $20 to $20.70 per hour. Kevin Causer's pay will rise from $13.38 to $13.85 per hour.
These three employees also work for the borough, which pays for its share of their time spent on borough business.
The pay for part-time summer workers remains at $9 per hour.
The budget is available for public inspection at the borough office along Center Street.
