The Kane Lady Wolves picked up a much needed win over a familiar foe in the Johnsonburg Ramettes,
Kane held Johnsonburg to only five points in the first quarter and 12 for the half and was able to carry that to a hard fought 45-38 win. The Ramettes scored 17 in the first quarter in Johnsonburg earlier in the month and held off a late flurry by the Lady Wolves to win that one, 46-42.
The turning point of the first half came with 6:43 when Johnsonburg’s Brittany Watts picked up her third foul and had to go to the bench for the rest of the half. Kane was then able to use their size and pick up points inside. Kaila Jamerson led Kane with 12 big points in the first half as the Lady Wolves took a 19-12 lead into the half.
The third quarter went back and forth but in the end Johnsonburg was able to capitalize on some poor passing and broke out with a 17-point quarter and tie the game at 29 as Rhianon Fowler hit a desperation 3-pointer as the clock ran out.
Drew Victory and Shannon Kocjancic each contributed big in the second half with 10 points apiece. The biggest of Kocjancic’s career came with nine seconds left in the game and Kane holding onto a slim 41-38 lead. Shannon had been only one of six from the line earlier in the second half but stepped to the line and with ice in her veins hit four clutch free throws to seal the hard fought win for Kane.
