MT. JEWETT – The Mt. Jewett Borough Council plans to enforce regulations that ban parking on Main Street (Route 6) between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Parking on both sides of the street is banned during that time to facilitate snow removal during the winter months.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has asked the borough to enforce the parking ban on Main Street.
Council discussed the issue earlier this week at its meeting at the borough building.
Council President Chuck Paar is asking residents to “abide” by the parking regulations on Main Street.
Mild winter conditions may be leading some residents to ignore the parking rules. However, Paar said the parking regulations are in effect “regardless of the weather.”
If residents continue to park on Main Street during the three-hour ban, Mt. Jewett Police Officer Steve Hale will be asked to issue tickets to the violators, Paar said.
In other business at the meeting, council:
*Discussed the feasibility of allowing two-way traffic on the Main Street driveway to the Mt. Jewett Fire Hall.
Under current rules, only traffic coming north from the fire hall to Main Street is permitted. Access to the fire hall parking lot is from Gallup Avenue, which is just west of the one-way driveway.
