Mary Jane (Bridge) Hanson, 90, died peacefully at Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio, on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
She had moved to the Toledo, Ohio area several years ago to be closer to her son, Richard L. Hanson, and his wife, Gail.
Born Dec. 7, 1921 in Kane, Mary Jane was the daughter of Lester and Ellen (McMahon) Bridge. The family lived in Clermont. On Sept. 7, 1940, in Smethport, she married Laverne E. Hanson. They lived together in Ormsby for over 65 years.
Mary Jane worked for many years as a grocery store cashier at Loblaws in Bradford and the surrounding areas and always enjoyed seeing her regular customers. Rug hooking was a hobby she enjoyed, but she was most famous for her delicious cooking – especially her homemade fudge which was very popular among her family and friends.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Gail) Hanson of Toledo, Ohio, and Ronald (Linda) Hanson of Middletown, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Thomas J. Hanson; a daughter, Carol (Hanson) Houlett; and her brother, Lawrence Bridge.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc. in Mount Jewett. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Saint Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Smethport, with the Reverend Vincent Cieslewicz as celebrant. Burial will be at the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery which is adjacent to the Rosehill Cemetery.
